A Prescription for Rest

I’m doing a 6 week Bible study on Sabbath rest. This week one day featured Psalm 96 which I dubbed “A Prescription for Rest.” Here are 10 points that the passage highlights:

  1. Sing a new song.
  2. Bless His name.
  3. Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
  4. Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among the people.
  5. Fear Him.
  6. Ascribe Him glory.
  7. Bring an offering and come into His courts.
  8. Worship the Lord in Holy attire.
  9. Tremble before Him.
  10. Say, “The Lord Reigns.”

I’ve meditated on this and as we approached the beach, Zach Williams “new song,” “So Good to Me” popped into my head and led me right down that list to worship and rest.

When day light breaks
With morning dew
You are you are so good to me
When evening comes
The day is through
You are you are so good to me

I am going to use the verses from Psalm 96 for a template for worshipful prayer.

Lord, You are, You are so good to me. I bless you for You are good and only do good. You didn’t leave me where you found me, but have grown me day by day and pushed me gently out of my comfort zone into Your calling on my life. I want everyone to know that You are the God of my salvation and responsible for any fruit that comes from my life. I can do nothing apart from you. Help me to revere You above all. I offer any talents, gifts, or abilities that You have given me in service to you. Clothe me in the righteousness of Christ and help me to walk in a manner that is pleasing to You. I stand in awe of You. As I look at Your creation, I can’t deny You are a big God who does great things! Our God reigns!

I hope your Sabbath day is filled with peace and rest.
